New Homes for South-Ribble
#31
14 more new homes planned for the former Shell petrol station on Leyland Lane. That's one eyesore I won't be upset to see go. http://www.lep.co.uk/lifestyle/property-...-1-5432399

I have to be careful what I say because I am a member of the Planning Committee, BUT, one good thing about this application is that it is for one bed flats and two bed houses. We are DESPERATE for this type of housing in South Ribble and when the bedroom tax forces hundreds of families to try and downsize we will need them even more. Contrast to last weeks Planning Committee meeting when we had an application for 14 five and six bedroom homes behind an electric gate in Hutton and another for 14 four and five bed homes of Croston Road. And, no, the number 14 is not a coincidence. If you build more than 14 in any one place then you have to make a cash contribution to the provision of 'affordable housing' somewhere in the Borough. Hence, applications to build 14!

That's an interesting fact Matthew. Would it be such a big difference if they built more than 14?

It's exactly the sort of planning I want to read about. I'm heartily sick of reading about 4 and 5 bedroomed detached house being built on farmland. 30 more of these larger homes planned along Croston Rd, I read (sometime last week.) Won't be long before Croston Road and farmland by its side is totally built up.

14 is the key number because, as I said earlier, if you want to build 15 or more houses in one go you have to make a cash contribution to a fund which proides funds to build 'affordable' homes. Build 14 or less and you make no contribution!

Where are all the people coming from who are going to live in the hundreds of houses that are in the planning stage?

Makes me realise how fortunate we are; living in a very comfortable house with great view over the lake (100yards away) and with a quarter acre section all to our selves.

We are going to end up with very little green space in the area. They are slowly but surely swallowing it all up. The test track is going to have hundreds of houses on it apparently. They were even talking at one time about an exit road onto Paradise Lane. That already is choco-a-bloc at school finishing time. Also there is only the one exit from all the houses off Cocker Lane. They were then intending that it should be an exit road for about 700 more houses. Crazy. I believe, hopefully, that they are rethinking this.
