I have just spoken to Phil Goodwin from the Environment Agency and he has confirmed that on this occasion the 'fishy' smell is not coming from the Waste Plant but from what has been spread on the fields. They have identified the farm and will be seeing the farmer. Also of course the wind direction today is from the west so it is the people in the vicinity of Stanifield Lane, not Bispham Avenue and Croston Road who will be smelling any smells from the waste plant. So, those of you in Farington East (as opposed to Farington Moss) you might still be smelling the Waste Plant. When I spoke to the Environmeny Agengy 24 hr. reports line earlier today they said keep the complaints coming in every day that you smell anything; don't just think that the one report you made a month ago is sufficient. They want to know every time that you suffer 'inconvenience' as the result of an environmental issue. Tel 0800 80 70 60.

Thanks for that Tim. I'm just grateful for the prevailing NW wind coming off the moss at the moment.

I would like to warn the people fighting the battle of the smelly waste plant to beware of being fobbed off with a process called (I think) reodourising - It doesn't remove the problem, it just disguises it. A few years ago we were walking near a large land fill site in Norfolk when we became aware of the smell of perfume As we got closer we could see see that a series of scent sprays had been attached to the perimiter fence. Although the smell was probably better than that from the rubbish it was just as intrusive.

Gee whiz! Fabreeze for rubbish? I've heard it all now!

Hadn't smelled the smell for a few days; whether it was the wind direction or the fish meal smell which was overpowering it I don't know, but yesterday (Saturday) it was back again, as strong as ever, and particularly noticeable on Croston Road and near the waste plant entrance. Please keep the complaints going in to GR and the Environment Agency because that is what might get the Environment Agency to act, and certainly it will affect the size of the financial penalties. I still don't really know how much money we are talking about, but has anyone got any good, realistic, ideas for comminity facilities that will benefit all?

Whoever is in charge of the funds from the fine, imposed on Global Renewables, needs to distribute some compensation amongst the residents on Bispham Avenue. THE PEOPE WHO HAVE BEEN MOST AFFECTED. They are the one's who are living next to the monstrosity and who,s properties have been devalued because of it. The figure that has been mentioned is approx 4 MILLION POUNDS!! There is obviously money for everyone - residents and the Farington Community. The Plant should never have been passed in the first place and L.C.C. should do the honourable thing, this time, and compensate the Bispham Avenue residents. I urge all local residents to demand your entitlement. Please get in touch with your local councillor and express your concerns.

My thoughts precisely jonjo. £40k each should just about compensate them. The politicians who gave planning permission should be banned for life from going into politics.

As everyone will know, it was a lovely day on Monday. We opened the windows but had to close them because of the horrific smell. Its absolutely disgraceful that we have to live this way, until the problem is solved. Noel, you are right, we should all receive £40k in compensation. The person who doesn't agree - where does he live? Can he see it in the morning, as soon as he opens the curtains? Has his property been devalued by £40K? Before any money goes into the Community, lets remember that the residents on Bispham Avenue, belong to that Community and we are the closest neighbours to the Waste Plant.

Tim asked for suggestions for the community. I asked my wife what she thought as my mind was blank.
She more or less said forget the community, get the site hidden as best you can with a row of trees, then money to the residents of Bispham Avenue and immediate area.
Failing that bomb the place.
The smell was down at Broadfield Arms area on Sunday.
I am desperately sorry for you and your neighbours jonjo, we had a lovely detached house down there until 1979 when we moved south.

Noel, you and your wife are talking sense with your suggestions.
Surely, it's commonsense, that the residents should be the first priority, in all this. The Farington Community will still benefit - there will be enough funds left.
I envy you for getting out before all this. I'm hoping that enough people will start complaining to whoever is in charge of the money. jono
