- noel - 18-Mar-2011 Welcome Adrian. There must be something we can all do. Nobody would go to live in Bispham Avenue or neigbouring areas at the moment. I will join any protest. It's a nightmare for you all. - Rusack - 18-Mar-2011 I wonder if contacting the media would mean that even more people know that these houses are virtually without value and is that what we want - catch 22. I remember that when all this blew up we were told that one could apply for compensation for the drop in value of your home - can't remember who from but maybe this is an avenue we should explore en-masse and find where we stand. I beleive one had to prove the value of your home prior to the development and current value but surely some kind estate agent would have access to this. - knoc01 - 18-Mar-2011 The media have been informed, it was in LEP not long ago. Having been on the Initaial committee for RAWS, i know how difficult it was to get the backing & donations as people further afield said it would not affect them (i actually feel quite angry about this)as all an sundry are now complaining. It is all very well trying to claim compensation but we would have to jump through that many hoops and who knows what the cost would be. If we are all realistic the chances of getting anything are slim but i am willing to try - Top Cat - 18-Mar-2011 I did try and post a further 'blog' a couple of days ago, but it seems not to have recorded. Firstly, welcome to all new faces. Secondly, forget £40K per household compensation; it isn't going to happen. (Unless perhaps there is sufficient public pressure for this to happen). Apparently during the commissioning or ramp up stage the 'financial penalties' are not at the full £2000 per hour amount but perhaps a quarter of third of that. ie. between £10K and £20K per day. Still a substabtial amount. However, one wonders why GR are 'happy' to pay this rather than close the plant down whilst the problem is resolved. I suspect that the answer is that it would cost them more in 'operational penalties' rather than 'environmental penalties' to do so. It is a further scandal if this is the case and the Environment Agency have allowed them to get away with it. My father in law lives in Fleetwood and I understand that there are also problems with smells at the Thornton site (although not as severe) and that they are under penalty there also. - Top Cat - 18-Mar-2011 Today, Friday, I did not smell the smell this morning; BUT it is back with a vengeance on Croston Road this evening. The smells were first complained about (to my knowledge) in early January; does any one have an earlier record? We need to ensure that penalties are imposed from the beginning to the end (whether it be £10K or £48K per day) NOT just for the notional eight weeks that it was going to take to fix the problem from the date of the meeting on 21 February. Please keep the complaints going in to the Environment Agency and Global Renewables; and indeed the press; every time that you smell the smell. I will try and contact BBC television to see if I can get them back again now that our prophecies of doom have been fulfilled. - jono - 18-Mar-2011 Does anybody know who will hold the purse strings? I hope there is going to be a representive on the committee from Bispham Ave. Someone who will represent and stand up for residents. We have endured enough of this over the last five years. Steve Brown from L.C.C said at one of the liaison meetings last year, that if global renewables breached the terms of their contract, large fines would be imposed and when asked who would receive the money he said it would be shared amongst the residents, it is in the minutes. He did not say that the fine would go to the Farington Community. Nobody is expecting 40k or more, but we should get something - there will be enough to go round. - LDunlop76 - 19-Mar-2011 quote: Originally posted by knoc01 The media have been informed, it was in LEP not long ago. This company aren't going to be scared of a local paper. National media of some sort would be a different matter, though I take the point about advertising reduction in housing values. - noel - 19-Mar-2011 I don't know who holds the purse strings John but I wouldn't trust any politician. - Top Cat - 19-Mar-2011 I have sent an email to BBC Television, addressed to Colin Sykes from NWT whom I have met previously when he came to Farington in 2007 when he was doing a series of articles on Waste Disposal, Landfill etc. I have not yet received a reply, and it is very short notice, but I have asked him to send someone to the meeting. Unfortunatly I shall be out most of today but I will try and contact Radio Lancashire. Does anyone have any other contacts in the national media? - jono - 19-Mar-2011 I think all the media coverage will have more of a negative impact on property prices. The best solution is to hound globals and the environment agency. It might be time to seek legal advise, smell is classed as nuisance, so as global has admitted responsibility, it might be a straightforward case. Hit them where it hurts, lets get some compo for the suffering residents. |
