- noel - 06-Apr-2011 The smell's still as bad as ever when I went past the site today. Are they hoping we'll get fed up of complaining or are they actually going to do something? - Peter Harris - 07-Apr-2011 Ive been driving along the by-pass for the last two weeks whilst in Leyland on holiday - never smelled a thing - don't know what you lot are all complaining about - chops - 07-Apr-2011 quote: Originally posted by Peter Harris Ive been driving along the by-pass for the last two weeks whilst in Leyland on holiday - never smelled a thing - don't know what you lot are all complaining about You must be used to bad smells [ ]
- Peter Harris - 07-Apr-2011 Hey Chops I did work for the Gas Board for a few years so you are probably right Cheers Peter - chops - 07-Apr-2011 you'd have thought the rest of us would have got used to it by now! Still my 2 year old daughter hasn't complained - yet! - noel - 08-Apr-2011 I don't think I'll ever get used to it. I went to watch Accrington Stanley on Tuesday night ( I couldn't smell it there either Peter) but coming off the M65 at Cuerden it was welcome to stinky town time. - Top Cat - 17-Apr-2011 There is a rumour that L.C.C. have pulled the plug on Global Renewables and that a number of senior staff at the site have been dismissed. I cannot say how true this is but it will be interesting to see what happens in the next few days. I understand that there is to be a meeting with staff at the site either today or tomorrow to let them know what is going on. Apart from the bio-filters there has apparently been a major problem with the 'scrubbers' which is not new technology. They apparently have not been properly maintained and this has exacerbated the problem with the filters as there has been insufficient air flow through the scrubbbers. Whether this is down to design, or human error and lack of maintenance I don't know, but either way it is a total abregation of both Global Renawables and L.C.C's responsibilities. It will also be very interesting to hear when this problem with the scrubbers came to light. At the last meeting on 21 March David Brewer made a very strong claim that they (Global Renewables) were being open and honest with us, If they knew about this problem before 21 March this gives the lie to that statement, and if they did not know about the problem one can only question their competence and fitness to operate, We should press the Environment Agency to seek prosecution if there is sufficient evidence. If this rumour is true one can only presume that buyers will be sought for the site, presumably for it to continue as a Waste Plant of some sort, but all this is speculation at this stage. Watch this space, and please try and attend the Liaison Meeting at the plant at 6.30pm tomorrow, (If it is still going ahead.)I know that the smell has reduced in the past fortnight or so, but it appears that the plant has only been operating at 20% capacity, so perhaps that is the reason, NOT because they have solved the problems. - noel - 17-Apr-2011 Thanks for the info T.C. If LCC have pulled the plug on them surely that means no more waste will be recycled? - zicobones - 17-Apr-2011 TC where did you find out about this - Top Cat - 17-Apr-2011 Hi Zicobones, Who are you? Your profile doesn't say. Please post your profile. You are no doubt aware that this issue affects everyone's quality of life and people hear, and tell me, things. I am not going to name my source here, and potentially get them into trouble. I don't yet know whether it is true; I am asking others whether they have heard similar. We will have to see what G.R. and LCC have to say on Monday. |
