You dont often see wind turbines in built up areas of this type. On the side of mountains, near the coast, they are hardly going to catch much wind sited there. Wont be very cost effective, but thats what they do, play at being 'green' and it works out costing more than any electricity generated in this way.

With reference to noels view being spoiled by the waste-plant. When JJ rigby built his estate off Croston road, starting September 1968, the views of the hills and fields and the river Lostock from the pre-war houses on Croston road, were spoiled. By ALL the houses built on the site of the OLD SEWAGE SETTLING BEDS, by the river, including noels once home, but the long-time residents of Croston road had no say as to whether THEIR view was taken away.

To view the ACTUAL REALITY of this gigantic plants location. GO TO GOOGLE EARTH, ENTER pr26 6pl and the satelite's view will surprise you as to the distance from the river bank. Its the height and size of the buildings that change the perspective and decieve the eye.

With regard to 'TRAFFIC' THE ONLY ACCESS TO THE SITE, GAURANTEED CERTAIN, IS GOING TO COME OVER THE 35 YEAR OLD BRIDGE CROSSING THE MAIN-LINE RAILWAY, down to the DOUBLE TRAFFIC CIRCLE ON CROSTON ROAD, taking the same route as the DELIVERY WAGGONS for PACCAR, OVER THE RIVER, THEN RIGHT TURN ONTO THE SITE
Aprox. 1000 vehicle movements are anticipated, (500 in/out)

a thought here, does anyone remember the traffic on ALL the roads surrounding the late lamented Leyland Motors, when several thousand employees and hundreds of cars left at the same time. I'm sure that the residents of 'rubber-lane' do. And THEY will never see a 'garbage-truck',

It does look quite close to the river to me Bruce, even from Google Earth. The council could so easily have moved the project further inside the Enterprise Business Park so that the height of the buildings and any smell/noise from the plant was away from domestic buildings. In fact quite how planning permission was granted surpasses me. Maybe passage of brown envelopes, who knows.?

I think we were promised many things when this place was in the planning stages, including there would be no smells coming from it.
Well, it's winter and we live more than a mile away from it and the last few days we've had a really musty smell outside which is coming from the recycling centre. Surely in this day and age it can't be allowed.

I take it there's still quite a few people who are opposed to the place [?]

I received a reply from the council confirming others have complained ( I'm all for recycling but not if it threatens my health or makes it unpleasant to go outside of the house)

Hello Noel

I have received several similar complaints today and have discussed the matter with The Environment Agency who are dealing with it.

Can you please log your complaint with the Agency on tel. no. 0800 807060.

They should then contact you with details of their findings.

If you require more detail please contact me by e mail or telephone 01772 625334.

The smells coming from the Waste Plant are becoming worse by the day; stronger and reaching far further afield. To me the smell is of blocked drains, or stale dirty dish cloths. Perhaps a lot of people (further away) have not yet woken up to where the smell is coming from. How can this have happened when we were assured that there would not and could not be smells? If smells can get out, what else can? Is this potentially damaging to our health as well as our quality of life? There is a Liaison Meeting at the Waste Plant at 6.30pm on Monday 21 February Please attend in order to voice your concerns and try and get some answers.

I have smelled these odours when travelling on the M6 between Junc28 and junc29 and I have smelled them on the bypass road just near the tip !! Smells like when I leave my wet scrim in the car over weekend ! A damp clothes sort of smell !! I thought it might be the recycling place ! [Sad!]

I'd love to be at the meeting TC but I'm away on holiday that day. My son works at Clive Hurtz and they are getting the stink full blast as are most of the business park. As I said I'm over a mile away and it still reaches us at times. Maybe a letter to the local rag wouldn't come amiss. A bit of bad publicity.
