- LDunlop76 - 12-Feb-2011 quote: Originally posted by filmoss I have smelled these odours when travelling on the M6 between Junc28 and junc29 So that's what the smell is! I've smelt it too between those junctions and assumed a field of cabbages was going off or summat! I really feel for anyone who has to live or work in that whiff. - noel - 12-Feb-2011 Me too Linda. My middle son who lives 4 miles away in Penwortham has even noticed it in the air. It'll be interesting to hear what becomes of the meeting which hasn't had any publicity whatsoever. I'll be on my way back from Gran Canaria unfortunately. - Top Cat - 12-Feb-2011 I too have now smelled it (today) whilst travelling along the M6, and I have been told that it has been smelled in Lea. I strongly suspect that most people don't know where it is coming from. Please spread the word. You will probably recall that before the plant was built there were serious concerns locally that this would happen, not least because two similar waste plants in Germany had to close down because they could not control the smell, but we were told that the process had been changed and that this could not possibly happen here in Lancashire. I believe that the German word for deriving pleasure from others misfortunes is 'scadenfreude' but unfortunately little pleasure can be derived from being proved correct when we (the people of Lancashire) are the victims. - mushypea - 13-Feb-2011 We've been having southerly winds which means it can't really be Lea And the plant is north of the town too so most places wouldn't catch it but Lostock & Penw would Is that any help ? - noel - 13-Feb-2011 I've been right past the plant Jenny and it positively stank there, my son's place of work is right opposite, Clive Hurtz and they are constantly ringing up complaining about the smell. We were promised there wouldn't be any, but hey ho, that's politicians for you. - Gonzo66 - 13-Feb-2011 Easy solution - take up smoking. You won't be able to smell the waste and the government can raise enough tax to get us out of the recession. Plus, eventually the death rate will mean that I can go to buy something for lunch in Morrisons without half an hour dodging old people. Trebbles all round!! - MikeF - 14-Feb-2011 I live but a stones through away from the plant and trust me that smell isnt nice,,and as someone said 'if smells can get out, what else can?' Is this potentially damaging to our health as well as our quality of life? we need answers ! We should all attend the Meeting at the Waste Plant at 6.30pm on Monday 21 February. Please come along and voice your concerns. - Caroline - 18-Feb-2011 Glad I'm not there anymore... you need to get a Facebook page going with a petition to 'sign'... it worked to stop the sell-off of the forests and it might help here. - cindy - 19-Feb-2011 I live on Croston road and the farm on the corner smells worse! They've been spreading the last few weeks. [ ]
- garn1943 - 19-Feb-2011 We in New Longton also smell it and at my daughters in Penwortham,if we have a door open it invades the house. What will it be like in summer?Richard. |
