I for one, most certainly do NOT want the proposed merger to go ahead.I feel that SRBC on the whole do a great job, whereas - reading about the exploits of Preston council - I see no positive reason at all to become attached to them. I cannot see a single thing that would benefit us from this marriage.

There is a big majority against the merger yet the leader of South Ribble, Howard Gore says the council may ignore the wishes of the people and go ahead with the merger.

Perhaps it would be prudent for Cllr Green to list the pros and cons about the proposed merger. Why would South Ribble want to merge with Preston, why would Preston want South Ribble to join them, are we talking just Leyland or does South Ribble Borough include Walton le dale, Higher Walton etc. Who's behind this idea and why ?

Public quiz councillors over unitary plan
Costs and education were among issues put to councillors by residents at a public meeting on South Ribble Council's proposal to form a unitary authority with Preston.
Around 100 people attended the meeting in Bamber Bridge, the first of four being held in the borough this week.
Council leader Howard Gore said the new council was the option supported by the Labour and Liberal Democrat alliance.
He said there were pros and cons, including a stronger voice at local level, control over decisions and no overlaps in services, but said: "If we do not think, financially, it stands up we will withdraw."
Residents questioned the panel for more than two hours over cost, whether education would remain at the current high standard, provision for the elderly and other concerns.
Conservative leader Margaret Smith, whose party opposes the merger, said their request for a referendum had been refused.
Coun Smith said Preston and South Ribble were "like chalk and cheese", and added: "We feel we can find different and better ways forward."
Results of the council's consultation, including responses at the four public meetings, will be considered at a special meeting of the council on Thursday, December 7.

David, It`s possible that Cllr Green couldn`t see the relevence of answering questions posed by someone who wouldn`t benefit one way or the other from the outcome of this issue.
