hello - leylandhandyman - 24-Oct-2011 hello all lived in leyland all my life 37 years run a local handman business off for a read around the forums - anacortesdamp - 24-Oct-2011 A fellow that has a similar business in Anacortes called it "Rent a son-in-law". If you're only 37, you're probably not familiar with my family's presence in Leyland in the 50's and 60's. We had a big Ironmoger's shop on Towngate, just north of Regent Road. Since we closed down, it's been a multiple set of small shops, then a furniture store, and I beleive now a floor coverings store. There was a health spa upstairs for quite a while, don't know if it's still there. We also had a petrol station on the triangle where Canberra Rd and Turpin Green intersect. Our facility was lined up across the base of the triangle. We sold it to Bob barton, who realigned his station with Canberra Road. Have no idea if it's still in business or who owns it. DW and I haven't been back for several years, so we aren't familiar with what has happened in recent times. My sister still lives in Leyland. Brother lives in Plymouth. We have quite a lot of relatives still in town, but I wouldn't know some of them if I tripped over them! Frank - leylandhandyman - 24-Oct-2011 hi frank the petrol station is no longer there it was knocked down several years ago now just waste land, the row of shops is still there :p i dont remember it but im sure my dad would have been a customer ![]() my niece left leyland for plymouth too :p small world - Karen - 24-Oct-2011 Welcome Craig... enjoy the Forum[ ]

I think his mum is called Pat? - bazh - 24-Oct-2011 Oooops btw, welcome Craig. - LDunlop76 - 26-Oct-2011 Welcome to the forum Craig. :-) - anacortesdamp - 27-Oct-2011 baz: If the Simon Damp you know is in his 40's or so, he's the son of my cousin Michael and his first wife Pauline, one of the Parker twins from up Nelson Avenue. Michael and Pauline were divorced in the late 1970s or early 80s (I think). He remarried, but I don't remember the name of his second wife. They lived in the country near Huddersfield. They were big names in show-jumping judging. Michael died of cancer October of last year, on his 68th birthday. He had been a heavy smoker since about 12 years old. Though we were good mates during our school years, we didn't stay close after we were both married, even less so after Eileen and I came to the US. Frank |
