Curtseys are a sign of respect ...no different than
salutes or a gentleman touching or doffing his cap.
I curtsied to all my teachers and elders at school.
We even extended the courtesy by curtsying to the
policeman who saw us safely across the Street.

Its all a matter of degrees, I have it on good authority that a certain Asian Sultan murdered a caddy with a golf club in a fit of anger following him (the Sultan) missing a shot. The fellow (the dead one)disappeared and no charges have ever seen the light of day. Makes the rights and wrongs of curseying seem insignificant really!!!!
