Collection bags - germinal - 23-May-2013

Are others plagued with charity collection bags the way we are? We can get 4 or 5 in a week on occasion and never a week goes by when we don't have at least 1 or 2.

I read somewhere that some councils in England have an on-line list which people can refer to in order to ascertain whether the bag they have just received is genuine or not.

When I rang South Ribble council about this I spoke to a gentleman who was very polite, but managed to give the impression that he thought I was asking for the moon.

There doesn't seem to be any way of checking on these bags other than trying to track down the charities involved or apparently labelled.

The reason why I am so wary of these is that a few years ago I had put out a sack full of some quite good stuff, which went from the drive. I later saw the van of the charity named cruising round about an hour later and obviously all the bags left out had already been taken by somebody else. I did in that case contact the charity involved - Age Concern I think and they said it happens often.

I really wonder why more can't be done to protect these charities - it would be so easy to set up a database, but South Ribble are lagging behind in this respect.

I learnt the hard way and now take my items down to the St. Catherine's collection site.

I fully agree and since suffering the same fate (having donations removed by an unauthorized white van) I now use them all as refuse sacks and deliver everything I have either at the numerous charity shops in Leyland or at St Cathrine`s collection centre.
In case some of you don`t know, the collection unit in Walton-le-Dale is now closed and has moved into the grounds of the hospice.

It's common practice for these vans to come round early in the morning stealing charity bags. You are best taking them straight to the shops as most charity shops are seeing stock levels fall because of the bag situation.

We are also plagued with pizza and kebab leaflets.

Since my minor road traffic accident in August of 2011 in which my car was written off I have had countless telephone calls to my mobile from the old 'Where there's blame there's a claim' companies ! It drives me mad ! Angry

I have a friend who had the same happen to him. It drove him mad too.

My wife works at Age Concern voluntarily, they accept good quality cloths and books etc to sell on and plough back into their charity. On the question of accidents we get the same even though we haven't had one, also texts to a mobile saying you are entitled to £2000 PPI click on reply to see more. This just proves your mobile is active and the number is sold on to other time wasters.
