Plans to block off Croston Road - Guest - 21-Jan-2014

New plans are in place to block off the end of Croston Road in Farington Moss where it meets the double mini roundabouts at Flensburg Way.

Lancashire County Council has revealed the plans in its Highways and Transport Masterplan, which is designed to cope with the extra housing and traffic expected in the area over the next 13 years.

Up to 800 homes are set to be built between Heatherleigh and Moss Lane over the next 15 years, and the county council wants to build a new road through the middle of the development, connecting Croston Road with the Flensburg Way ‘tank’ roundabout.

Why not just not build 800 houses? Why pander to the whims of these ever greedy builders. Or am I being cynical.

Not to worry! "The duelling of the carriageways is expected to take place between 2021 and 2022" according to the Guardian article so in the process the proposed block off may well be knocked off

A friend of mine went to a consultation meeting at South Ribble Council earlier this week, the plan is now for 1000 homes, a third of them to be "social housing". Plans also to build north of Lostock Hall in the fields adjacent to Fir Trees, up to Flag Lane, and the turned down application to build houses on Coote Lane close to where it joins Church Lane has been reapplied for. When we run out of open spaces maybe the penny will finally drop.

Continuation in the same/nearby area Noel mentions:
Residents in Leyland Rd area around Bee Lane to Pear Tree brow have had notice this week that the go-ahead is imminent for the house building programme that includes demolition of the Sumpter Horse pub to make way for a roundabout access into the new housing area

Words fail me. But thanks for that Audrey. Sad
