PLAYSCHEMES - Kath smith - 12-May-2002

Playschemes- on Worden park, every summer there was a week or two when we all got bussed by those nice people from Fishwicks to the park for days of fun and frollicks lead by Jim green and co, (Must have been practice runs for the cross country)
I beleive they still have them though I haven't sent my kids as we are always away the weeks they are on.
Anyone remember them?

Many great memories of these...

I used to run the band as part of the 'Fun' workshop - (music & drama didn't sound appealing enough!). It seemed to get bigger and bigger each year but some things never changed such as the end of day helpers meeting when we got moaned at for the litter.

There were some really great people involved such as Daryl Edwards and Alan (sorry can't remember the surname)who used to run the afternoon show.

The Survivor's disco on the Friday night was always a lively event.

"Playscheme on the move
by Margaret Blackburn

A LEYLAND playscheme which has kept thousands of school children entertained during the summer holidays for more than 25 years is upping sticks from Worden Park to a new venue.

This year -- for the first time since establishing 28 years ago -- the annual Leyland Playscheme will be based at Cuerden Hall, Bamber Bridge, and will be open to nearly 1,000 children from August 5-9.

The move follows a row between playscheme director Jim Green and bosses at South Ribble Borough Council who claim the retired youth worker still owes the authority money for use of its leisure facilities at last year's event."

It looks like the playscheme is going the way of the festival.
