Plans to improve leylanimation2005 !! - Spycam - 19-Jun-2005 Over the next few weeks I hope to be able to produce my Leyland clips in the Quick Time format. Viewers would need to download QT, but it's free. The result would be short movies at 30 fps and sound. If it works ok I'll need a new name for it.... SMALL = Short Movies Around Leyland Lancashire - Martin - 19-Jun-2005 Sounds like a good idea. We can watch the new shops being built in Towngate. - noel - 19-Jun-2005 Well done Roy, I look forward to seeing them. - muffers - 20-Jun-2005 Ishake.... From someone who lives way across the world in New Hampshire USA you bring so much pleasure to a homesick Lanky lass I just want to thank you for all your kind efforts. - noel - 20-Jun-2005 How long have you lived away from Lancashire muffers? - muffers - 20-Jun-2005 We moved from Leyland back to Chester were my Mother came from when I was 14 I might add that was a very difficult time to move from one school to another. I married and moved to the US 1979 and when my husband retires next year we are hopefully coming home. Were we will end up I have no idea. The prices of homes in the UK and the dollar against the pound are not good at the moment. So lets say its in Gods hands. - noel - 20-Jun-2005 I can imagine at 14 changing schools was not good. My eldest son had the same experience when we moved from Wiltshire to Farington Moss, having said that, he's a lot happier up here though the move did affect his GCSE results . Good luck with your decision on where to live. Fuerteventura would suit me bothe weather and price wise , wife and family ties prevent it. - muffers - 20-Jun-2005 My brother and many of my friends live in an around Leyland I also have quite a few in Chester. The thing I found difficult when I was changing school was having such alot of friends and then moving to an area I knew nothing about and trying to make new friends was very difficult in fact I did not make new friends. Only when I went to College and then got a job did I make new friends. Plus the school I went to was an awful School I never appreciated Leyland Senior until I left it. The education system was much better. - LDunlop76 - 23-Jun-2005 I would imagine the house prices in Leyland are cheaper than the Chester area, though nowhere is cheap these days. - anacortesdamp - 24-Jun-2005 Boy, Linda, you got that right. When we left the UK in 1968, a new Wimpey bungalow in Bamber Bridge was 2200 pounds. I was amazed when my sister sold a 2-bedroom townhouse on the old Leyland Motors North Works site (kingswood Drive) for over 120,000 pounds. We have a 3-bedroom detached bungalow in a community that's sort of a bigger version of Arnside - on the water, 15,000 population. It's about 1700 square feet, with two full bathrooms and a fairly big 2-car garage. We paid $185,000 for it five years ago, and it's now worth about $320,000. The days of relatively cheap housing in England are gone for ever. We had always considered a retreat back to the UK as our last-ditch stand, given the potential in the US for medical expenses to bankrupt one. Given present prices, and the inability of anyone over about 50 to get a mortgage, maybe that's no longer an option. In this country anyone with the financial resources to make the payments can get a mortgage. The lenders have realised that they will get paid in full from the estate in the event of death, so even an 80-year-old can get a 30-year mortgage! Also, the traditional mortgage here is for a fixed interest rate for the duration. We re-financed our house two years ago and got a 30-year loan at 4.75% (and I was 61 at the time!). Rates have gone up a bit since then, and are hovering around 5.5% at the moment. Frank Martin - Maybe this would be better being a new topic? |
