Windows XP Laptop - Spycam - 11-Aug-2005

I am the proud owner of a new laptop (I still have my old Win 98 PC as well). Can somebody help with something...
It is set so that if I move the cursor over an item, the item will open without me clicking it. I suppose this is designed for speed, but it's no good for someone like me because things are opening that I don't want. Now, how do I remove this function ?

Roy, are you sure that your touch pad is not a bit too sensitive.
I work my discos from a laptop and the touchpad on that is a pain in the neck!

Roy:

Plug the mouse that you normally use on your desktop into the mouse port on the lap-top. Problem should go away.

Those touch-sensitive pads are the work of the devil. When I travelled for Boeing, I always took my regular mouse with me rather than use that stupid pad.

Fantastic! thanks to you both, problem solved.

I love using the touchpad, if you set it up to your own preferences it's not too sensitive for you and it will work as described.

Another possible solution to the problem might have been that you had an autoclick selected, this feature (if you have it) saves you from clicking on things. When you arrive at an item and stop moving your pointer, a click is generated on your behalf. If this is the case on your laptop then simply uncheck that option.

Hi David, on my other laptop I set my 'preference' to the minimum but it didn't make the slightest difference.
Any pressure and it 'activates' !!

Thank you everyone. I can't seem to adjust the touchpad but as my USB trackball works well I'll settle for that.

Hi Magicman, I met someone recently who tried even the lightest touch and still it clicked, but I pointed out to them that their problem was the fact that they were being too gentle with it. If you slightly touch one of those pads, it can be interpreted as a click, but if you make a solid 'Finger is now on the pad' type action then it doesn't act as a click.

For anyone having trouble with one of these laptop cursor pads, try not being so gentle and you might find it solves your problem.

D.B. you have made some good points and I find now that pressing hard does seem to have solved the problem. Thank you.
