Got a card from a friend on holiday in Spain, Unfortunately it arrived two weeks after one from same people on holiday in Cornwall, telling me they had a nice time in Spain. Eight weeks to get here.
On the other side of the coin, Lady G sent some flowers via Teleflorist to Lostock Hall. Ordered flowers in shop at 11-00am on Friday, Received a letter from the recipient at 8-00am Saturday saying the flowers arrived O.K. Total time of about 21 hrs, why do we complain of poor service all the time?

You're right, Bill, sometimes we get very good service. I received a parcel from Lakeland Limited last year with a note inside apologising for the delay in delivery. As the parcel arrived only 3 days after I had ordered the goods, I thought this was a flippin' good delivery time, not a delay, and emailed the company to let them know.

Linda, I agree sometimes they are very quick.
I deal with Jolliman for cheapie things and they vitually come before you put the phone down.
Waitng for a quote to do my guttering, local man, nothing yet in ten days.

When the US had its last increase in postal rates, (from 35 cents to 37) a local comedian reckoned it was due to the increased costs of storage.
Really, nationwide service by air for 37 cents (about 22p at current exchange rates) is a pretty good deal, even if it's not particularly quick.
When we first emigrated (1968) we could write my mother on Sunday afternoon, take the lettergram to Seattle-Tacoma airport, and get a reply by Friday.

In a recent survey of the UK postal service, Wigan was one of only 6 towns in the UK which met its target for delivery of first class mail within one working day. :-P
The time may be variable, but at least we get it in a day. Now if I could just get the postman to stop shoving next-door's mail through our letterbox......
sigh.....
6 letters for next door we got last Saturday! SIX!!!!! Shall I give him the phone number for Specsavers?

Linda - Letters on a Saturday? - lucky you. I think that our postman is operating an unofficial five day week!

Can't complain about our service here in the Pomona Valley (30 miles east of Los Angeles). Usually arrives around noon, even on Saturday ;-) And the nice thing about our mailman is that he picks up the mail that we are sending out !! We just leave the mail sticking out of our mailbox for him to see...pretty good eh ?? No letterbox in the front door here. The box is attached to the house, and in rural areas, the box is attached to a post in the street !!

Funnily enough, Saturday is the earliest postal delivery we get - the postman's usually visited by 10am. Maybe that's why we get next-door's mail - he speeds up the round by dumping mail in any old letterbox! LOL!
Linda; We don't get next door's mail, we get the mail for the same numbered house, but a street north of us. We wish that WAS our house, it's about three times the size of ours ;-)
