Does anyone remember the shop on Hough Lane that you could buy prints from that had been in the paper. I was on Hough Lane today and had this flashback of stood in the shop window looking at photos of Leyland Festival. What is the shop now, can anyone remember?

Wasn't it a newspaper that had the shop, possibly the Guardian?

The newsagent at the School Lane end of Hough Lane was Ernie Babbs, opposite side to Grundy's and now an Estate Agent's, I think. At the gasworks end it was Thackers, next door to Eileen's parents' greengrocery. The brother of that Thacker had a newsagents on Towngate, just south of Regent Street. Can't remember which was Jack Thacker or what the brother's name was.

Frank - before Babbs, wasn`t it the shop of Frank Ward? I remember early in the war he had a trans-receiver taken out of a Flying Fortress with which he used to impress uss with its world-wide capacity.
I believe in the end he ended his own life. long time ago.

Thinking about it now I think it was the Leyland Guardian shop. Don't know if it is now Leyland Taxis. I will have to have another look when I'm in town.
I just have fond memories that after the festival there would be prints in the window that you could look at and even buy (all black and white of course)

Yes I remember that shop. I wonder what else they sold apart from The Leyland Guardian? Back in the seventies Leyland Taxis office was above it.
