Fascinating Facts - "Space"
#41
Yes I liked that posting David, and it certainly made me laugh, but I wasn't referring to the posts being 'heavy' but the article about the Alston observatory, it is supposedly for the community but there didn't seem to be any opportunities for people to go and see it never mind use it or am I missing something here?

Unfortunately, Dedrah, there is not much for the general public, except on very special occassions. However, there are a number of programmes designed for local school pupils/students to visit the site.

The main UCLAN activities open to the public are the lectures/presentations given in the various very modern lecture theatres at the main University Campus. These are on a number of different subjects other than Astrophysics and are well worth a visit.

I am afraid that the general public still have to travel to good old Jodrell Bank if a view of the heavens/night sky is required.

The link for the Jodrell Bank visitors centre is shown below:

Very good David, I like that one.
I concur with Dedrah though, I read through your link to the Alston Hall Observatory, it was disappointing to see it wasn't for the general public. Years ago when a young'un my uncle used to put his powerful telescope up in his garden in Lynton Avenue in the late dark evenings, it always fascinated me looking at the stars, But it weren't half cold in those winter evenings.
