Yes, I loved Robinsons ice cream too. I was in a music group with the lad who lived next door, on Leyland Lane. That was in 1984 or 85. I can't remember his name. He had very red hair and played the guitar. If anyone can remember his name or his family name. I would be very grateful as I would love to get in touch with him and find out how he is doing and if he is still playing the guitar. Thanks Alison [8D]

I have fond memories of Robinson's ice cream van when they came round the streets. I think they used a handbell to let everyone know when they were in your street. It was always a special treat to be given sixpence to buy an ice cream. Was there another ice cream street trader called Frederick's? I also remember when Mr. Whippy started. They had a chime jingle and the ice cream was not as good as Robinsons.

There was a Frederick's but Corcoran's was my favourite, Wilf Corcoran ran it, I knew him quite well as he was a friend of my neighbours back in the fifties. The ice cream was yellow and he alerted people with a distinctive horn.

I might be confused about this, but I always thought that Corcoran's was the shop in Towngate that was taken over by Knight's. I remember the ice cream being much more yellow and creamy than Robinson's - as described above. I think the shop disappeared in the 1960s redevelopment from the Cross to the old library.
As a kid in the 50s living at 7 Church Road and playing on the "rec", I can recall a delapidated but once rather splendid horsedrawn ice cream float with glass sides which had been left to moulder in Knight's back garden. I'm almost sure it had Cocoran's name on it.

I've just revisited this topic, with its mention of ice cream parlours in Blackpool and Frederick's from Chorley.
But one of my special treats was to go to Preston for an ice cream in Brucianni's in Fishergate (I might have got the spelling wrong). Real Italian stuff, as the name suggests. My favourite was a dollop of their ice cream in a long, conical dish filled with what I think we then called American Cream Soda and eaten with a long spoon. That was the summer treat. My December birthday treat was to the pictures in Preston. If it was the ABC we would go to the Kardomah for tea (well, coffee usually), or if it was the Gaumont we ate tea in their own restaurant in the circle void. Happy days.

As far as I know Brucie's is still there Colin. It hasn't changed a lot either.
