Leyland Band FREE Concert
#6
Good Luck to the Leyland (formerly Leyland Motors) Band. Eileen and I have fond memories of walking past the Thurston Road Cafeteria building and hearing the band at practice. The opening sequence of the Hettie Wainthropp TV program revives those memories. We subscribe to Netflix, and have been able to rent the entire series. Unfortunately, though they identify the cornet solo player, there's no mention of who the backing band is.

I also remember a fellow student at Fox Lane Junior School (Alan Fowler) joining the band when he was about 10. It was certainly before I went to Balshaw's at the end of 3rd form at Fox Lane. I think he played cornet.

I have the double LP of the Motors band in Japan and plan to convert it to DVD this winter (one of those "if I can get to it projects!).

All our children and most of our grandchildren have been heavily involved with the band program in their school district. The band director, who had all our kids go through the program, was overjoyed to get his first "grandstudent", our eldest granddaughter, into the program.

The band (Inglemoor High School, Bothell, WA) has been invited to perform at the opening ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. Are they ever hyped up! Don't know how the invitation came their way. Oldest grand-daughter will be part of the tour group.

We'll be watching the TV coverage with more that a typical sports enthusiast interest. We just hope TV coverage gives the various bands enough air time.
