Leyland Market
#5
Anyone remember when the market was in Towngate opposite the row of shops which included Thacker's newsagents, Finch's bakery and Miss Wilson's miliner's shop?

The land belonged to Thornley's the pork butchers who had a shop on the corner of Forge St and also owned the row of houses in between.

You could see the backs of the houses in Vevey St and some days a local milkman (well, farmer, I think) would come down the backs in a pony and trap with a milk kit on the back and housewives would emerge from their back yards with jugs to be filled with milk.

A far cry from plastic containers in Tesco!
