Don't get me wrong, I want people who'll turn up every week, what I mean is people who are either crap (hi), really unhealthy (hello again), or don't mind losing since you'll probably be playing with crap, unhealthy teammates.

The idea is for a laugh and to meet new people, as I love playing football but have always been naff. I want and need to lose weight and get fit and football would be the ideal way but I feel really uncomfortable approaching other teams since I'd probably never get a game. I just want to find like-minded people who want to play and will try to win but don't care if they get stuffed.

England call for volleyball star

A Leyland student is heading for international volleyball stardom and is dreaming of taking part on the 2012 Olympics.

Chris Martin was invited to Oxfordshire for the final stages of the selection process and following an intense training programme of court play, training and classroom work, he secured his place in the England Cadets Squad.

Chris is the only North West player selected in the squad going to for an international tournament against the top twelve European clubs Feldkirch, Austria on January 31.

Players must be 35 years old or older, games are played over two 40 minute halves and there can be unlimited substitutions with subs able to return to the ground after coming off.
I play for a team called Austria (no relation) and as I write we are near the bottom of Division 1 and have reached the semi finals of the Challenge Cup.
Many of the the teams, and Austria is certainly one of them, don't have any formal training regime. Games are usually played in good spirit with a couple of beers, and occasionally more, being downed afterwards.
Results can usually be found at www.sams.org.au. The website is run by someone assosciated with one of the other clubs and because of the suject matter I imagine is rarely be viewed by anyone outside Adelaide.
People in Leyalnd and elsewhere may find it interesting to read about a small but flourishing sporting league on the other side of the world.
