I refer, of course, to the phototgraph of a very young Colin Damp, whose (50`s)photograph appears on the letters page of today`s Evening Post. Was the cinema in the background the New `Vic or the Odeon at that time?

Hi. This is Colin, using his brother's (anacortesdamp)'s computer. Unfortunately, I don't have access to the photo here in the US. From memory, I think it was taken outside Fishergate Baptist Church, which would make the cinema the old Theatre Royal (later the ABC cinema and now Debenham's). But it may be Church St, in which case it would be the Ritz, the Palladium or possibly the Empire. There's a shop called Coleridge's in the photo, too, and although I vaguely remember it, I can't remember where it was.

Leyland resident 1941-1965, emigrated to the US in 1968,
retired to Anacortes, Washington State, USA in 1999.

Back in UK now and have looked at photo. The cinema in the background is the old Gaumont (later Odeon and Top Rank). I know because over the shop next door is the dentist's (Proctors) we used to go to because my dad, perhaps wisely) wouldn't let us go to Grundy's. Maybe I'd been a good boy there, hence the ice cream in my hand.
