Thought the old Tiger was being knocked down and flats built on the site by the firm which was going to move into the old BTR Social Club as its HQ. My cousin Christine's son, Paul Rowley, is a partner in the firm, but I can't for the life of me remember its name (Rowland Homes?).

Perhaps the scheme has fallen through for some reason.

The flats were almost complete on the old Tiger site when I was in Leyland the other month. I'm not sure what's happening to the BTR club since it caught fire.

Hi David Batty here, I have someone with me that used to live at the Tiger, she is typing the rest of this message. She will be joining the forum under her own name in the week...

Hi my name is now Janine Clayton but I was Janine Howarth my Dad was Ronnie and my Mum is Gerry. I am married with two adult sons and four grandchildren. My dad died on the 14th Feb 1996. My Mum is still going strong and is dog sitting for us while we go on holiday. The compere was Wilf Griffiths and he died in Saudi Arabia under questionable circumstances. The first commere was Lucy Burnside (Leylands answer to Brenda Lee) the organist was George Warton and he continued from 1960 when my Dad took the tiger from Agnes Tonge until 1981 when my dad retired from the pub. There were severaldrummers Dave Hunt and later John Kelly who still lives in Leyland. The best night was always New Years Eve when tickets were always sold out by Novembner and the place was jumping from 7 pm. The pub fell into an awful state after my dad left. Several new landlords had lots of problems with the police. after it closed down it almost fell down and had sqatters and drug addicts staying so the best thing was to knock it down and build new houses. My Brother Tommy used to operate the lighting box he still lives in leyland but he doesnt miss it either.I was a Health Visitor attatched to sandy lane surgery for 20 years until i retired 2 years ago. I hope you found this useful.

Very interesting David, and a best wishes to Janine, I look forward to seeing her on the forum. Ronnie leaving was the end of the Tiger, but it certainly was the nightlife in Leyland for many a year while he was landlord.

I set up an account for Janine just after we posted the above message so she will be logging in here under the name Janine shortly. Janine has been one of my students for the last few weeks and I was showing her the forum site at the end of the class, we only had minutes left before the computers automatically logged us out so we hurriedly made a profile for her and I left her to fill in the details later. About ten seconds after we logged in under her name the computer shut itself down so we just made it.

Janine was the health visitor who used to come to my house 20 to 23 years ago, to see my newborns were ok etc.

In my classes in future, I will mention the forum to anyone I think might be candidates for joining us on here, I guide students round the web so why not guide some on to here. I hadn't thought to do that until I was talking to Janine on Monday.
