Recent update to Office 2003
#1
A couple of days ago, the auto-update program announced that an update to Office 2003 had become available. I've been using Word03 fairly heavily, so I figured an update would be a good idea.

Since I installed it, my printer has had cardiac arrest. I'm waiting for a drivewr update from Lexmark, but so far no action.

The problem I've encountered is with printing text. For donkey's years, "Automatic" or "Black" has given me black printing. Now it's coming out in a pinkish red color. To get black, I have to tell the printer to print colors in black and white. I don't use color printing very often, but I'm concerned that something has biased the color specrum off center, and I can no longer assume that colors specified in a print command will actually be those on the paper.

Has WYSIWYG died again? Has anyone else had this problem?

Simply print a self test page, then you will know if your printer is ok.

I think another update came through which has restored WYSIWYG. I don't print much colour, so maybe the nozzles were clogged, but the black cartridge gets a workout every day.

To fix clogged nozzles you can stand the print head on a slightly damp piece of kitchen towel. The slight dampness will draw ink from the nozzles, sometimes clearing the blockage.

Worth a try before binning a non working cartridge.

David, Can I add a rider to your advice please? Proceed as you sugested but don`t leave it overnight, as I once did (much to my cost). It worked - and drew ALL the ink out!!!

Actually, I usually clean the nozzle faces (my printer is a Lexmark) with a moistened cotton but (Q-Tip) and then wipe off any residue with a dry one. This method has worked several times since I got this printer 3 years ago. I am using Office Max cartridges now instead of the official Lexmark ones. Office Max is a nation-wide office supplies store chain for those of you not familiar with the name.
