Recycling stepping up a few more gears
PLANS have been unveiled for the first of a new generation of integrated waste management facilities to allow recycling, composting, reclamation and reuse of materials by Lancashire County Council.

The authority intends to submit a planning application for a Waste Technology Park to be based at Lancashire County Developments' business park in Leyland.

Proposed facilities will include composting systems, a waste transfer station, a materials reclamation facilit,y salvaging and extensive planting and landscaping, including the creation of a large lagoon. Chairman of Lancashire County Developments and leader of the county council Hazel Harding said: "This is a very exciting proposal that will pioneer our efforts to reduce the use of landfill and increase recycling and reclamation of waste materials in Lancashire.

"I want to stress right from the outset that these proposals do not include, mask or imply plans for any kind of incinerator or that we are planning to create a waste tip. Residents and people already working at the business park can rest assured that this development will be good news, not bad."

Local residents and businesses have been sent a leaflet outlining the proposals and invited to an exhibition being held at Farington Lodge Hotel, Stanifield Lane , Farington, on Tuesday and Wednesday, November 19 and 20 from 3pm until 9pm.

Specialists will be on hand to answer questions and discuss.

The planning application will be available for inspection at county council and South Ribble Council offices and can also be viewed on the county council's development control website -- www.lancsdevelopment.com from December.

However a councillor stated that they wouldn't have an incerator for 2 or 3 years. Read that in the Evening Post. Some ambiguity here. I never trust politicians.
