old drinking/pool mates by the Gables pub!!!
#1
hello my name is Julie leigh, in the mid 1970,s I used
to go to the Gables Pub in the center of Leyland. I would visit with
my best friend Maria,we would natter to the old guys that always sat
in the back room playing dominos,we would play pool and saturdays the men would come with their wifes and we would all play pool. In those days we knew a few people, would love to know how they are or do they still visit the Gables..
Who knows Frank, he would come with his sister Olive and he had an older brother. What about Paul Butterworth and the couples, one worked for Pickfords removal and the other was a butcher. Maybe people would remember me better as the girl who drove in a blue 3 wheel car, that everyone insisted I could do with a motor bike licence....many a joke made about it.Would love to hear from the old gang!!!!!

Me, no, definitely not. I prefer snooker.
I could tell you about the time at Shaw Hill Golf Club when I waited over an hour for a game (of snooker) and just as it became my turn in walked the captain. I had to give way wait even longer as he had precedence in those snobby days. Pool's not a proper game anyway.[}Smile]

What are talking about pool isnt a game, I tell you my friends and I played nearly every saturday night and sometimes in the week in the Gables, men would always get really pissed off at us if we played and won, women were not expected to plat pool at all and if we won, then it was either the fact that we distracted the men by bending over the pool table(how were we other wise to play)or we cheated, god forbid we won because we actually could play.We won a lot, some men especially after having too much to drink would have to be restrained from really loosing their temper and hitting us.......What a joke,a man built like a brick-house having to hit a woman because its easier to accept than loosing at pool!!!!

Just teasing Julie. Snooker is a far more difficult game than pool. My record break is 8. Anyone can pick up a pool cue and have a reasonable chance of getting the target ball in a pocket. It's a good pub game, I don't get out enough to play it.
A man trying to hit a woman? God forbid. He's no man.

I tried snooker but I was too small to reach the length of the table or have enough grip on the cue, thats why I took up pool.
I didnt say hit onto a woman but they blamed us with any reason they could think of if a woman won!
