Almost too crazy to be true.

Can you believe this?

A supermarket chain has apologised to a grandmother for refusing to sell her a bottle of wine - because she could not prove she was over 18.
Tina MacNaughton-Jones, 47, from Worthing in West Sussex, at first thought the checkout assistant was joking when she asked her for proof of age at the Waitrose store in the town's High Street.

When she realised she was being serious, Ms MacNaughton-Jones's 22-year-old daughter Fiona tried to buy the red wine on her behalf and showed the assistant her own identification.

But she too was refused service in case she gave the bottle to her mother, the Brighton Argus reported

I believe it.
On my way to England last July I had to change flights at O'Hare Airport in Chicago. After deplaning and finding my way to my new loading gate, I still had plenty of time for a pint. I too was asked for identification, me, a balding gray haired 70 year old [B)] But to their credit there was a sign posted on the bar which read....

Everone Must Show Identification Before Being Served

Doesn't make a bit of sense [}Smile]

I once saw a good one in a pub:

"We don't serve Woman"

..."you must bring your own"

Perhaps she should have been flattered? Not many 47 year olds can pass for under 18! It sounds like that supermarket check-out assistant was a bit short in the common sense department!
