Golden Hill - the new traffic lights
#1
Hello chaps,

Just wondering what people's thoughts were on the 'new' lights next to Morrisons on Golden Hill Lane. I don't know about anyone else, but I find it takes an absolute age to get through all these now (especially at night!). Lights seem to be extraordinarily biased towards traffic coming from the sides. They seemed to have timed the lights so that the next one is always on red... [Sad!]

They are awful!! Terrible. Annoying.

I really hate traffic lights.

When they design these Junctions I'm sure it must be someone sat in an office in Manchester who plans it all, having never seen the road or experiencing the volumes of traffic at certain times.
Surely it could have been done alot better.

I cant think just now how they should have been done......

Lots of mini roundabouts, methinks... you know schlezwig way and, I think its called Penwortham Way, seems to be quite free flowing most of the time around the roundabouts right up until you get to just before the bridge over the Ribble. However, there is just one set of lights on that road, and it causes most of the hold ups!

A full traffic flow study was carried out prior to the lights being insalled on Golden Hill. They were to be of the `smart` variety, changing as and when volume of traffic demanded it. For the life of me, I can`t see evidence of this taking place. However, let`s be thankful for small mercies - we could have ended up with those outside Chorley hospital.

Hi Guys,

Make sure you read this week's Leyland Guardian (out Feb 27) for news on this.

We seem to be very unfortunate in this area with traffic control, Morrisons and Chorley have been mentioned but what about the traffic lights and lane system on Turpin Green as you approach the motorway.

The traffic scheme must have cost us a fortune and all it has achieved is to create traffic hold up when none existed before. Traffic queing from the roundabout every morning.

I understand that the person in charge of traffic schemes at Lancashire is a woman don't know her name but I call her Monica and every time the traffic lights stop me for no good reason I put it down to Monicas folly.

Maybe organising traffic schemes is just not the job for a woman.

Its Rachel Crompton. I've had some small dealings with her about a street light, and she has always been extremely professional and courteous towards me, despite her decision not going my way.

I think you're right about these sets of lights - some of them are pretty awful, and they seem not to take into account what the traffic is doing at that time. I would suggest that they have been set up incorrectly; and I would guess that Rachel is not the person who would do that setting up - it's probably not right to blame her!

Is there any chance you could write what the Guardian is saying?

Those lights at Morrisons must be the worst I have ever come across, always on red whichever direction I come from and you can wait and wait while no traffic comes in the opposite direction.
