West Paddock plans
#1
quote:

Land located next to the main council building in Leyland could be the site of a new Lancashire County Council (LCC) office.

The land, next to the Civic Centre in West Paddock, is owned by South Ribble Borough Council.

It is currently vacant but is used annually, for a week, by a travelling funfair.

Official discussions are set to begin between South Ribble Borough Council and the county council over the possible purchase of land.

The plans would see the creation of a new administrative office for the south Lancashire area, as part of a wider review of office accommodation by the county council.

Try to imagine this in your neck of the woods...
If you were in Santa Monica, 30 miles west of Los Angeles at the Pacific Ocean and you got on the Christopher Columbus Transcontinental Hiway (Interstate 10). If you drove east from there to San Bernardino, a distance of about 80 miles....you would never cross a field !!
Scary eh ??[Sad]

Scary indeed. I always thought it was bad enough driving from Bolton to Manchester - for the same reason.
I have a friend who was born and bred in Pamona who upped sticks and left for that very reason. I envy reports of the place he moved to - up in the mountain at Tehachapi.
Having been an avid railway enthusiast since as far back as I can remember, I can share his delight at the view from his kitchen window of the corkscrew (he calls it the loops) where trains circle to gain (or loose) height. I bet a lot of the magic disappeared with the demise of steam though.

Yerse, there's a lot of this going on ATM.

For example, plans to build a regional secure loony-bin at Buckshaw; fantastic! Get all the aspiring young couples with families to move in and bung a secure mental institution full of the worst sort of nutters slap bang at the bottom of the garden. The stuff dreams are made of...

What I can't quite see is how the economics works - sell a few run down ramshackle old loony-bins and generate enough to buy a brand spanking new secure facility?

It's got to be the health authority being able to both cash in on the sale of existing premises and get grants to buy in a development area, or something similar.

Happy days
