Access to Cuerden Valley
#1
Hi All

Looking for dog walking places in the area. Been to Worden Park which was very nice. We drove to Cuerden Vally today which looks really good. From looking at a map it seems half walkable from Wheelton Lane - which is near where we're moving to - via Centurion Way and Lyedale Lane. But it's difficult to tell from a map whether Cuerden Valley is actually accessable from that route. Any ideas or shortcuts?

Thanx

When I dog sit, I take the Dog up to Cuerden. I usually jump in the car and park on the entrance to the park on Wigan Lane or Sheephill brow (the road that leads to Leyland from ASDA).

There is also a bit of a walk down by the bypass along the river lostock, you can get to it from Dunkirk Lane. Maybe a bit out of your way though.

You can cut a chunk of Centurion Way out by going down Carr Lane then when you get to Railway Cottages turn left along the dirt track, brings you out on centurion railway bridge. Cross over there's a dirt track along the side of the railway that leads into a field, in the right hand corner of the field is a path that leads onto Fowler Lane, go up to the main road and Lydiate is nearby

Alternately if you walk all the way up Carr Lane into Mill Street, Farington Park, a good dog walking area is on your left hand side.

Thanx for the tips - will check them out over what's left of the bank holiday weekend.
