Hi, You said you`d been off line for three weeks and therefore must have missed the eMail from Virgin.
As I`d reported earlier, those of us on the 4Mb service had experienced speeds of up to 9.4 Mb over the last four months. Virgin have now announced that the speed been raised to 10Mb/sec free of charge. The roll-out is over the entire country during the next few months and Preston and the surrounding area has been completed. Over several weeks, my daily download speed has been in excess of 9.4Mbys/sec.

Thanks Jim, I'm almost finished refurbishing the computer room, just reconnected to get rid of over 400 spam e-mails and order a laptop from Dell , the desk top takes up far too much space in the small room I have as a study. I think my speed is only 2MB though, is that affected?

Noel, I`m afraid that I don`t know the answer to your question. I have always assumed (wrongly) that you were on the 4Mb service. In the past, I think each speed has altered in some way. When I first took broadband it was only 500Mb. This over a period of time changed to 1Mb, 2Mb, 4Mb and now 10Mb, all at no extra charge.

Did you consider the Aldi lap-top offer before ordering your Dell? I bought one last Sunday. It even has Freeview TV included. Computeractive magazine always give the Median brand, rave reviews.

No I didn't Jim. My wife said we had to get a Dell ( apparently they use them at her work-place) so that was that!! The one I ordered says it is ideal for video work, which is what I want it for. Dual Pentium something or other processor, graphics card etc, wish I knew what it all meant.

Noel, There is nothing wrong with Dell, Both our current desk-top PC`s are bought from them. It`s just that Medion had a great pedigree and I`d seen the Aldi advert for it on line.

I've cancelled the Dell Jim, I might take a look at the AldI offer if it's still on
