Funny Story.
#1
I have not said much about my visit home but I thought I would share one story with you I will be posting some thoughts on how I enjoyed my stay in Lancashire.
I bought my husband a GPS known to you as a SatNav I think. We had arrived on the what I think was the outskirts of Penwortham and me being the Navagator was suppose to count the exits at roundabouts. Well I was doing well till we reached Penwortham. Counted I thought correctly and told my hubby to take the next left after the exit from the roundabout. Well hubby said in a slightly raised voice (you ladies know what thats like) WHICH ROAD, so I said okay this is it. I knew I was in trouble when Satnav lady started that infernal recalculating.... I missed reading the sign which said Town Dump or whatever you call it and we ended up in a que I thought there was a hold up in traffic till I noticed two cars in front of us and in front of them a large council truck going through gates. When the council truck when through the gates the gate was then closed......We had arrived at the DUMP.... had to wait 10minutes till the gate re-opened, then I asked the man in the coloured vest looking very important, Which way out. He look at me and and laughted and said just round that corner love.....
When we took the exit the nice lady on the SatNav again took us round the corner and onto the same road so we went in a circle. Off course she was doing her thing..re-calculating.... Mistake was to take that sharp left. Still not many visitors can say they have visited the town dump.
She seemed to lose her cool and a constant annoyance to me was "re-calculating" which she would repeat. I swear I wanted to throw her out of the car. Off course when hubby made a wrong turning it was not his fault she had mistaken the roads and got confused.

Not on quite the same subject but still in the car. Today in the mail a summons arrived from the UK for speeding in a 30mile an hour traffic area. I thought it was funny. I did keep telling hubby to slow down (SatNav also kept beeping out warnings). Even funnier is the fact the we were not in the country when this violation took place. Must have been the person who rented the car before us. But the rental company deducted the money from our credit card and gave the Police our name and address in case we stop payment.....

Oh dear, Avril, I hope you can get your wrongful speeding violation sorted out. Can you send the Police copies of your travel documents to prove you were in the US when it took place?

Avril,I`ve spent many happy hours over the years sitting in that particular que. You could have said that the load of rubbish you wished to tip was sitting in the drivers seat.[Tongue][Tongue][Tongue].

As for the ticket - the car hire people are surely at fault. The police would have given them the details and their records must have told them that it couldn`t be you. I`d give them a rocket and tell them to sort it out, otherwise ....................!

Jim over the period of 2 weeks there was more than once that I would have loved to have dumped him[:p]
How many of you on here use the excuse when going faster than the speed limit that you are just keepin up with traffic[}Smile]

Call Eurocar this morning and after waiting ages for them to answer the phone I finally got through to a girl who said she would look into it but agreed that we did not rent that car during that time. She promised to get it fixed.
But not only did I have to pay for the phone call but they could also have taken the money out of our account as they have our credit card number. My hubby is going to check with the bank this week. That means there would be cost from the bank for the exchange and bank charges at both ends.[Sad!][Sad!]

It's disgraceful that money can be taken from your account without your knowledge Avril. Like Jim I've spent many a hour sat in that queue, so much so the council are talking about putting a cc tv camera up so customers can monitor when to set off.

Noel, I can`t see what use a web cam would be. A queue can form in a minute and disappear just as quickly (as I have witnessed first hand).

Avril, This car business is a little strange. Knowing your hire dates, it may be that they thought the police would not pursue a ticket to the USA. An employee using it perhaps? Or something similar? It just seems to be an unusual mistake to make.

Jim we have been thinking the same. They knew the dates we were in the UK and it seems that Eurocar have a different department that works on speeding tickets and Police matters. So like you said it could be that someone thought they would get away with putting the ticket on our rental and we would not notice the date. I have still not heard from them. I shall wait a few more days and then email them.
