routers
#1
I've been trying to install a netgear DG834pn rangemax router onto my laptop but keep getting a message to say that there is more than one network card running on it. When I went into the network cards there were two but on closing each in turn then trying again, then closing them both and trying again, I still got the same error message. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong? ps my internet provider is sky and I have a BT line.

katb, I`ve no idea what could be causing your problem - but I DO know where you can find out. The following Windows forum has experts on every problem. I have used it over the years with a 100% success rate.

I added a laptop to our our home network by following a detailed set of instructions, given on the forum. It worked first time and I can now print from the garden (clever [}Smile] LOL).

I don`t think I`d have worked it out in a million years, on my own.

Thanks, Jim. I've looked at the website you suggested and decided it was all too technical for me. I've taken the router back and got a full refund from Curry's. Very good of them considering the box was ripped inside and all the plastic bags were missing. I'm now thinking of going back to Virgin broadband as I'm really fed up with having to phone Sky with problems. I guess some people just aren't cut out to have computers lol.

katb, I have to admit that setting up my router wasn`t as straightforward as they said on the box. If, like us, you have several home computers, my advise would be to persevere and get it set up (either Sky or Virgin). We`d be absolutely lost without the network in this house LOL.

It's a bit late now, I've taken it back, but I'll still persevere with the new router Sky sent me. There are so many conflicts. I've got my PC which I've bought a Belkin wireless adapter for, then there's the Lexmark printer which doesn't behave very well wirelessly, my own laptop and two xbox360's. It's just trying to get them all to work that's the problem. Am I supposed to be able to access them all from each other? eg if I want a file from my pc can i access it from my laptop? If so, how do I do it? (not bothered about the xboxes that's the men's domain).

Kat, Check the help files for `shared` documents. Anything you want to share has to be in the `shared` folders
