Leyland Craft & Local Societies Fair
#1
On Saturday 7th June is your chance to prove what interest there is in reviving Leyland Festival as we hold the 8th Annual Leyland Craft & Local Societies Fair, the only remaing part of the old Leyland Festival still going strong.

This free event held at Leyland Methodist Church Hall on Turpin Green Lane gives families the opportunity to see and learn about local artisans such as lace makers, wool spinners. Entertainment from the Lostock Hall Brass Band and other musicians.

Local organisations such as Scouts and Rotary and local Societies such as the Leyland Historical Society, Farington Art Group, Leyland Photographic Society and the Leyland Model Railway Society.

So if you are all serious about getting the festival back, please turn up and show your support. Doors open at 10.00 am till 5.00 pm.

The message dated 27th May was placed on the Facebook website on the same date and was followed by one positive comment.

When today, 7th June, that one person turned up and I had no other response I placed the following on their facebook site.

"Well, I should have realised that this site (facebook) was a load of hot air

Thanks to Caroline for being the one person to turn up.

This site's (facebook) organisers couldn't even be bothered to reply to my email, so i knew what to expect.

You all want say you want festival back but won't do a thing to show any support. So much for you all. Do you expect the previous organisators to start again just because you say you want it, but probably won't turn up if something better turns up.

By the way, your previous correspondence hasn't got a clue either, as the festival committee of 43 people were not Rotary, Round Table or any similar group but a group of people who liked to raise money for charity whilst giving Leyland people a good day out. Not a plc - does he know what one of those are.

So come on lets hear the excuses!!!"

Now lets see if I get any response!!

Peter, this sounds like a familiar tale. I organise meetings for a medical society and some people are very keen to stick their oar in, asking for this, that or the other as a meeting topic, but when it comes to help with organising, publicising or actually turning up to the event, they're nowhere to be seen!

I hope the day went well for you despite the apathy you encountered.

Sadly I forgot about it, what a pity you didn't give us a reminder on here this last week other than on here I haven't seen any adverts for it and I only live three miles away from Leyland.

I didn't know about it, but as I was told to wait in all day for a central heating engineer coming to repair the boiler... no hot water since Friday am, and he never turned up despite me paying £156 a year maintenance on the darn thing!!! That's Alpha boilers for you.!!

However I agree with you Ant and Dedrah, very little advertisement and when I think about it I wouldn't have gone anyway.

In defence of everyone who never went...

I cant say I saw a great deal of advertisments for the event. Online or otherwise.
No one will go if they don't know it's happening.
Also to be honest it's not everyones cup of tea, where as the actual festival is a whole different event.

Thanks Ant, But I don`t need a defense plea, having had a long standing (paid for) previous engagement on that day.

I happen to think that visitors should be better informed and encouraged to attend - definitely not bullied (as in this case). `Leading a horse to water`, rings a bell.

Thats a good one bullied? They want the Festival back but are too apathetic to even reply to emails never mind turn up.

So articles in newspapers, both Guardian & Evening Post, mentions on Radio Lancashire and their website, around 60 posters around town shops (thats all the shops that will display now due to company policy)and display board outside the venue are not enough. What do you suggest?? Individual invitations!!!

Oh I forgot that, also placed 300 inserts into newspapers delivered from the newsagents on Canberra Road.

Did Jim and Ant ever attend the festival and if so, what did they like about the event?

Peter don't forget people who don't get into Leyland very often how about adverts in Chorley and Bamber Bridge to widen the net a bit.Even Preston, not everyone gets the local papers either.

I have watched more Leyland festivals than I can remember. Those were the days when there were more than a dozen marching bands and half as many Morris groups. Leyland motors took about half an hour to pass in the prossession and Cannings had every one of their trucks and trailers decked out.
The demise of the `real` thing is a matter of great sadness.

Without going into details, could you imagine the dreaded health & safety allowing, for example, young children (or anybody else for that matter) to sit on chairs on the back of a moving vehicle?
