Welcome George, some name memories there. Jack Hunt was mentioned by one writer in the LEP. My dad would have left by then and my friend's dad John Hindle who died late fifties I think.

Hello George. The big companies always seem to win in the end. It's the same with the high streets as more locally owned shops close down.

Quite often the long-running family businesses close down as the people running them reach retirement age or older and can't keep it up any longer. Maybe they didn't have children, or the ones they had were in other jobs and didn't want to take the business over. There's a lot to be said for a "regular" job in a big company. It can also be difficult to sell a going business with a long family-owned track record. That was certainly the case with our family's business. Eileen's folks sold theirs on around 1962, then that buyer retired a few years later. The premises were combined with those next door and it's a beauty spa/fitness centre now, I think. Frank |
