Sky+ box
#11
Smithy, We both have the correct set top boxes (Sky+ and Virgin V+) so nothing else in the way of hardware is required.
I won`t add anything else at this point as I may know a lot more later today. Watch this space - as they say[Tongue]

Thanks Jim, you've answered the very question I was going to ask the engineer (i.e. do I need another box). I shall continue to 'watch this space' [Smile]

Well! We DON`T have a problem. Apparently our Toshiba TV is one of the top two for digital reception and the output on DTV is so good that the differential between that and HD is therefore reduced to a minimum. This explanation coincides with what I have read in technical forums. In no way were we being fobbed off with some lame excuses. As I have said earlier, not having seen HD on any other TV, we had no yardstick with which to measure the quality. I`m now quite satisfied that we are getting what we are paying for.

Jim - if Toshiba is one of the top TWO for digital reception, did they happen to mention the second (my set is a Panasonic).

All I can add to this discussion at present is that last night I was flicking through channels, and I clicked on a couple that said 'HD'...all I got was a message on screen that said 'Call 08702 ... for further information on how to receive this HD channel'
I have a feeling that this was referring more to receiving the actual channel as , like yours, the picture I get is superb.

The other was Samsung. I`m sure that Panasonic (being in the first division of elecrical companies) are up there with the best. The engineer said that you get what you pay for and without naming names said that HD would be vastly different on a set that you may buy in a cut price store for around £250.

I suggest the channels requiring the phone number are subscription (pay-as-you-go) ones. We have similar on Virgin.

Hopefully we can now each sit back and enjoy some excellent quality TV - the final episode of Dr. Who, to name but one.
