Beijing Olympics
#21
There's a lot to be said for a large panel of judges with the highesst and lowest marks being discounted. That way no one judge marks way out of line with anyone else in an effort to favour their own country for fear of their mark not being counted. The ice skating was fairer once that system was introduced.

Re professional athletes - that's been going on for years. But it does seem odd that professional footballers, tennis players etc are still in the games, but boxers like Amir Khan, who won silver in Athens then turned professional, don't enter the Olympics.

I've been told that curling isn't in the Olympics - what about lawn bowling ,is that ? Both very popular sports !
providing a gold to Federer really points out how ludicrous the whole thing is !

Curling is in the Olympics Alan. Great Britain won back in 2002in Salt Lake City. But I agree generally. Why not Ten Pin bowling, Darts, Snooker, as Linda says professional boxing? It's a mess.

I`ve just be watching some of the sports that have been dropped from the list. Rope climbing and underwater swimming - to name but two.
Softball and baseball are going after this year.
I was suprised to see that beachball was second only to football in terms of the number of people playing it.

Why not ballroom dancing, after all the Winter Olympics has ice dancing?

I seem to remember some debate about ballroom dancing becoming an Olympic event in Beijing - it's very popular in China. But it failed to appear - I dare say people are still campaigning for it and why not? It's certainly strenuous and demands discipline and training.

If football is "in", why not rugby? And bring back the tug-o-war!

BTW, Nadal won the tennis gold, not Federer.
