Bus Services Leyland to Preston
#1
In 1935 when we moved into Farington, Leylnd to Preston Route was then served by 4 yes four different bus operators, Ribble and Fishwicks were the two main operators using the livery as at present Red/Green. The other two operators were Singletons in a green livery stationed behind the Police Station in Chapel Brow, the last one was Parkinsons, ina dark blue/black livery, I never knew where they operated from, it was either 1935 or 6 when Singeltons dropped off from Service Buses to doing Coach trips and taxis. Parkinsons just dropped off the services. I know on busy Saturdays old man Parkinson used to pick up passengers in his car and chase after his bus. Cut throat business in those days.

I believe that Parkinsons operated from a big garage in Bent Lane. Can only remember one bus in the mid 1930`s.

Singletons used to go to the Lake District with tours. It always rained.

Some-one from the Peet family may come back on Parkinsons because it was across the road from where they lived.

I can`t remember which thread it was in, but I used this photo in answer to a question , last year, regarding Fishwick`s buying these two coaches.
An unusual aspect of these coaches (for their time) were the double rear axles

My dad used to drive for Singletons, I think it was a green comet coach nicknamed "the rocket" from what I recall my dad said it did about 4 mpg.
