(very tongue in cheek, sorry) I`ve mentioned before, Sergeants Pollitt and Turner of Leyland Police, they were famous!! and what about Butcher Lord? W.R.

Without saying too much - the "Lady" mentioned here had a brother in my class at the Senior School before the War.
I can remember going past the house where he lived with his sister (EB) on the night her father told her never to darken his doorway again, and witnessed her leaving the family home to take up her career.
`nuff said! My memories, not for you!

One of the things I enjoy about this forum is when, `from the horse`s mouth` accounts of events are posted. These are guaranteed to contain factual data (unlike most other forms of media information).

Hi Frank, Yes, I am the youngest Holmes from the greengrocers and flower shop in Towngate and it was my eldest brother, Derek, who lived in the same terrace as yourself. Sadly, he passed away in the early 70,s. The Lagonda was his pride and joy. He took out the engine stripped it and rebuilt it on the kitchen table. Iris, his wife was extremely understanding, there was oil everywhere. Iris now lives at Chestnut Court, where I understand, your sister Jean also lives.
Jean delivered my son at Chorley Hospital in 1963. Happy memories: Small world: We send our best to Jean who will probably remember Maureen and myself from from Dereks.
To Alan Marsden:- Sorry I never worked at B & R Taylors

Anyone from pre-war remembering Holmes`s Greengrocers shop on Towngate would recall the wonderful smell as you went through the door, of fresh vegetables and the like. We used to shop there, you could even get dirty potatoes with soil on.
I remember the wooden floor which creaked as you walked on it, worn down by lots of feet. Happy days??

To William R. Hi William, glad you liked the creaking floor in my Mum and Dads shop. It was my weekly job to bleach and scrub it before I was allowed to go out with my mates. When I was older, I used to go to the farms for the fresh produce and on many occasions had to pull the veg out of the ground. Can you imagine the current supermarkets having that degree of freshness? Thanks for the memory. Kind regards.
