(very tongue in cheek, sorry) I`ve mentioned before, Sergeants Pollitt and Turner of Leyland Police, they were famous!! and what about Butcher Lord? W.R.

Hello William,
The lady that used to parade herself outside the post office in Leyland was Elsie Banks,so I learned at St Mary's school in
1946 or so,,No good to me then, I was only 7 years old.......

Hello I was at school with Charles Pemberton,(1944 to 1956) and his name was David Pemberton then..He took his Fathers name Charles, later in his acting carear. His mother was my god mother....As to Phil Cool,he is a good friend of mine and his name is Phil Martin,he was brought up in Granville road Chorley, off Harpers Lane, and ran the laughing gas nights at Leyland Cricket club in the late 70s and early 80s........
Trevor Hemmings? no I am not making this up.but I grew up with Trev,in Lynton Avenue during the war,and after.I lived straight accross the road from him.....
All the best for now Tony Dilworth (Astley Village)

Hello Again John. Yes we where very good friends in the late 50s and early 60s.What with the model aircraft and all,(still have my ED Hornet) engine somewhere.....We re- met so to speak, on here just after the start of the Forum(I think)and it was as a result of a question about the radiation effects on astronauts when passing though some belt on the way to the moon.......You very kindly put the record straight for us all..Thanks for that John, and I look forward to your postings from now on......Tony

Phil Cool actually from Chorley although he used to live in Leyland. Ian Bleasdale (Josh in Casualty) attended Balshaws but I think he was from Chorley or Coppull. What about Brian Pilkington, ex Burnley and England winger, who has an Estate Agents on Hough Lane now?

Seth Armstrong lives around the corner from us (Stan Richards) and a right nice bloke he is too, not a Leylander, We have a real live Lord as well, Lord Mason of Barnsley, and Umpire Dickie Bird will always have a word with you. Wrong thread again!!! W.R.

I like Stan Richards, and Dickie Bird is a real character. His book isn't that good, I think he wrote it personally, quite disjointed but his antics on the field were hilarious at times. I read that he played for Barnsley back in 1951 I think, along with Fiery Fred and 99 not out Michael Parkinson, who's book is a really funny one.
