The Smoking Worker
#1
Now many of you may be aware that the statue of the Leyland Motors worker based on the old photograph outside of Leyland Market had his pipe knocked off. Now the culprit was either your usual wilful damage knock it off for pure badness type of chav or it was a novice vandal acting for the clean air, anti smoking, green brigade. Either way it was knocked off and the issue has since been raised at a council meeting by our local central Leyland Labour councillor, his reply was " We are going to keep it off because we don't want to endorse smoking blah blah blah " ! If we are going to have an emulation of an actual photograph immortalised in bronze to remind us of bygone days then it should be just that ! Why agree to have it done in the first place ? Why not pick another guy from the photograph ? Can you honestly see kids looking at it and thinking " I gotta get myself one of those things in his mouth " I say it like that because pipe smoking is all but extinct now and so. A) They wont know what it is really and. B) They wont be able to get hold of one anyway !

Agreed Phil a stupid commemnt. I have to say I always thought some moron would have a bash at knocking the pipe off and run off laughing thinking he'd done something clever, a bit like the thug who punched Kirkland. I'm not sure how they would repair it.. maybe they should have chosen a different worker, one not smoking as you said.

By the way, my " Static Forum " thread was posted roughly an hour ago and on my return to the forum it is not there when I click on " Active Topics " ? What is all that about ? Surely some changes to the software need to be made otherwise people are not going to be able to see recent stuff if they like me use the " Active Topics " option ! I am aware of the " Since " option with the timeline feature but to be gone after an hour ?

There's a time scale for active topics. Same thing happens to me but I just change it using the since option. Not sure if Martin thinks it's worth doing anything?

The Active topics link is unique to each member and shows new topics since your last visit. Other people who haven't visisted for a few days will see more topics.
