Playgrounds

Residents across South Ribble are being offered the chance to save 18 playgrounds under threat of closure this summer.

Groups of householders are being challenged to form community groups to run the parks in a bid to keep them going.
Officers at South Ribble Council have recommended that 12 play areas, including five in Leyland, should be decommissioned due to their state of disrepair. Six could be closed at a later date.
The council is planning to remove the equipment from the following areas from July 1:
Saxon Manor, Leyland,
Hastings Road, Leyland,
Turpin Green Lane, Leyland,
MillBrook Park, Leyland,
Bowbrook Road, Leyland,
Mounsey Road, Bamber Bridge,
Woodstock Close, Lostock Hall,
Manor Park, Walton-le-Dale.
In addition, Peacock Hall, Western Drive and Ryden Avenue, all in Leyland, and St Cuthbert's in Lostock Hall have all been marked for closure once the amount of safe items of equipment is reduced to three items or less.
Residents who want to stop the closure are being offered the chance to form community groups to oversee the running of parks. But they only have until May 1 to act.
