I saw a thought-provoking bumper sticker today. It said "The last time religion ruled the world, the period was called the dark ages".

There was an interesting comment on Radio 4 this morning. The chap (forget who) said that as Islam is a religion about four or five hundred years younger than Christianity, Islam now is at the stage Christianity was around 1500 - burning heretics and so on. Does this mean in another 500 years the mosques will be empty, the way CoE churches are today?

I note that petrol is at approx. 1 pound a litre in the uk,up 20 pence since the Katrina, here in Canada its $1.05 / litre up from $0.70 ., and $0.10 cents more for higher octane .
We're told that there's ample supply of oil, the problem on both sides of the Atlantic is that no new refineries have been built in twenty five years and existing facilities are operating at max, capacity .
It's a free market economy with demand exceeding supply, it's therefore surely a naive government suggestion that the oil companies should increase their processing capacity !
Why would they , when to do so they'd be investing to reduce market prices, hardly a positive business proposition !

I understand many places in the US and Canada you cannot survive without a car but were I used to live in Chester there was an excellent but service and it only took half an hour to get into town. Before I left there was maybe a few cars parked in my Mothers street last time I went back they were fighting for space in front of there own house. I really think before we start blaming governments for the climate changes we the people need to rethink what we are doing that is causing many problems. If more of us caught a bus instead of jumping into a car we would be heathier and we would be helping in a small way. But I think todays generation and some of ours are way to selfish and so ready to blame someone else for the situation we are in. Petrol were I am in New Hampshire is anywhere from$2.99 to $3.30 per gallon.

And for that very reason I have decided not to rent a car for the duration of my upcoming vacation. The last time I stayed with my sister in Preston, I had so much trouble trying to park, even in front of her own house, that I decided then, never again. It will be taxi and bus service this time around.

I received this today from a good friend , it's worth reading and considering !

AND WE SAID OKAY
Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" (Regarding the attacks on Sept. 11).
Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said, "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives.
And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"
In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.
Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school. The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.
Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.
Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

That is all so very true Alan, we do indeed reap what we sow.
