A major time waster

I'm not sure whether I've posted this before - I can't find a post with the key-words.

For you airplane freaks, look into a web-site called "flightradar24.com". It's the system that TV news shows often use to show air traffic. It covers the entire world.

I understand that Boeing's Flight Test department uses it to keep track of the test flights. They're identfiied by "BOE" flight numbers, and having flown on many, it's interesting for me to see how they wander around. I'm sure anyone checking the data would be surprised to see a 767 flying at 85 knots at 20,000 feet over Eastern WA. I know they were checking the stall warning system!

It does have some accuracy issues. I spotted a flight that was about 90 miles east of Vancouver (BC), climbing through 18,000 feet and headed east. The display said it was a flight from Calgary to Toronto (sure it was!).

The display is divided into regions that are easy to switch between. I can track the BA flight from London to Seattle if I log on regularly.

It can become addictive - so be careful!

`It can become addictive - so be careful!`.

I`ll second that remark.

Leyland lies under the flight path of many routes, as the photo (taken from my back garden) demonstrates and I`ve been fascinated to be able to identify just what aircraft they were and where they were going.
