You are joking Phil! I used to love the chips from there ( can't do it anymore thanks to my wife making me join Slimming World). in Lostock Hall we have a KFC, 2 Indian takeaways one of which is an eat in as well, Turkish Kebab take-away a Chinese and a Chippy all within 20 yards or so of each other.

What won't have helped the chippy's cause is the fact that The Ship across the road is pretty dead these days and also the licensing laws that enable the pubs to open much later than they used to. Not many drinkers visited the chippy on their way home because it didn't stay open till 2.30am ! Now the reasons may be purely down to retirement and a good offer from the Asians but the fact that a lot of his trade used to come from hungry revellers after the old last orders wouldn't have helped I guess ! Not to mention Aldi and it's vehicle registration number camera technology that put paid to people very briefly using their car park whilst they nipped in the chippy ( Not many other places to park round there ! ) Anyhow, whichever way you dress it up it's gone....Forever ! How long has it been a chippy Phil? It seems to have been forever. By the way I forgot to add an Italian takeaway and Glovers' Bakery in that list of mine.

Having been away from Leyland since 1965, I'm not sure which of the old chiippies took the name "Th'owd Chippie". I remember one on the corner of Boundary Street, another in the block of shops on Golden Hill, just south of the big pub on the corner, one in the block where Bennett's electrical shop was - across from the top of Westgate, one where Booths is now (Rawcliffe's ?), one in the (now demolished) block of shops opposite the old Public Hall where the catch phrase was "Anythink On?", and one on Turpin Green across from where our filling station was. I think there was also one at the top of School Lane, in the block where the butcher's shop was.

Reminders, please.

Boundary street was one where you could sit in and eat, which was rare in those days, our local was Worral's on the corner of Crown Street.

Th'owd Chippy was the one at the top of Westgate across from where Leyland Garage used to be ! Not sure how long it was a chippy for but it has been there since I was knee high to grasshopper ! Most chip shops usually become Chinese takeaways and so an Indian taking over is quite novel I guess ! Most Indian takeaways offer a delivery service and so the location of the premises shouldnt really affect them !

Booth's has gone long ago by the way Frank, it's a furniture shop now, part of a small local chain .

Rather intrigued by the notices in the windows, "Cods Plaice" in the takeaway window, and "The Indians are coming" in the café window.
Is it going to be a Chippy or an "Indian"
