Linda, At the moment I dare not even think about it.

What I found really odd about Dave Whelan's comment that "it gave lower league clubs hope for the future" ( I've paraphrased/totally reworded that, but it was the jist of what he said) .
Oh yes, hope that they find a sugar daddy prepared to pump, as he has so far £70million pounds into a Bury or Scunthorpe United.
As Jim Royle might say "hope my **se"

Mr Whelan is not highly thought of by some in Wigan - allegedly for the way he treats his workforce. Can't vouch for the truth of this, but when I used to visit the Wigan Forum (not as friendly as this one, hence me not bothering any more) that was the "talk on the boards". There are also concerns he plans to boot out the rugby league side from the JJB stadium and get them to play on the union site at Orrell. This would have to be totally redeveloped - not something I would look forward to as I live just 10 minutes walk from there and the roads are bad enough on Orrell match days as it is!

Linda; Success brings the maddening crowds. You picked a very successful little town to live in, ie: Wigan Pier, Wigan Rugby Club, and now Wigan Athletic. Does Wigan have a cricket team ? There's no end to it. You could always move back to sunny Leyland, they only have Bolton Wanderers Reserves to watch. ;-))

Wigan Pier is scheduled to close in 2007 - madness! Orrell has a cricket team, dunno about Wigan - we have the rugby league to watch in the summer now, you see. (Grandad would be turning in his grave if he knew.) As for moving back to Leyland - I've never lived in Leyland, so that would be hard! [Wink]

shuffy; Be honest now, Blackburn got there by way of the wallet of Jack Walker, and they don't have a rugby league team, or a pier, and isn't Blackburn a CITY ? ;-))
Don't get me wrong, I support Blackburn Rovers along with MOST other Lancashire teams. I just can't get myself to support Everton for some reason.
Linda: Why on earth are they closing the pier [?] [Sad]
