Voice recognition software
#1
Has anyone tried voice recognition? is it any good?
Typing has become a real problem, with Parkinson's.
Try this:
Drink cup of water and hold it in your mouth.
Put on a pair of leather gloves so your fingers won't move much.
Start to type while shaking your hands 4 - 6 times per second and dribble the water over your keyboard at the same time.
You would see it's not alot of fun.

Voice typing might help.

My husband tried the software a few years back, but didn't persevere with it. It takes so long to train the system up to recognise your voice. We did have several good laughs about what the computer thought hubby had wanted typing though!

I have heard of people using it succesfully Roy. I was on an egroup of what I can best describe as "for old gits" and one of the members was a lecturer in PC programs such as the voice typing. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called but as per Linda's comments he did say it needed a lot of training to write the correct things. I would have thought it worth while having a look at it if your shake is affecting your keyboard use? What was it called now!!

Hi there ishake, I was hoping by now I would have good news for you, as I managed to get a superb headset, unfortunately the Software isn't up to much! but when my colleague gets back from overseas I may have better news, with something you can check out before spending a substantial sum! If you have already got sorted out, please let me know, and I will put this on Ice!

Regards ...

Hi Ishake,

I make most of my money from software I wrote to teach people to type, it's been on sale since 1985 on various computers and I have always been told that voice recognition software means that people won't need to use keyboards, but so far the voice recognition software seems to come and go and not make any kind of impression on my business.

I hope you find one that will work for you but the current technology seems to frustrate people I know who have tried it and then ditched it.

You could try approaching some of the specialist agencies that will advise you on products they have tried. Try www.becta.org.uk as a possible start, it's the government agency that looks after such things as IT sofware and inclusion. They may be able to advise you.
