My Mum married my Dad because he looked like Humphrey Bogart.
About the subject in hand,do you think that the tunnels under Balshaws lead to the Eagle and Child, this explaining neatly how we used to end up there instead of doing Private Study in the Hall? 'I dicovered this tunnel, like, an' it lead to t'Eagle, an' a ghostly figure set a pint in front of us...'

Yea, and once you got in the Eagle and Child you could say " Of all the bars in all the towns" or something like that.

The significant owl hoots in the night.

And I thought I was bad.Never ended up in the Eagle and Child with a friendly ghost that shouted pints.
Just used to take the whole day off and go to Preston -maybe to the pictures and the White Horse Restaurant for a two and sixpenny three course meal then turn up home at the right time.A lot safer to wag on your own -much less chance of being caught.
Not too often of course. That was only on an 'I am depressed' day. Had my first pub beer in the Bull and Royal Fishergate.A group of us went in on the way home from a performance by the Liverpool Philharmonic organised by none other than BL Wilkinson as he had a music group at school. We managed to get drinks by sending the tallest and oldest boy to the bar.
Didn't stay long though before we were sussed. Most of us would have been around 15.
LG
Was rather fond of Stewart Grainger myself-a very handsome chap.

We were so bored we used to hitch down the new motorway and go to Fortés on our afternoons off for a cup of tea. Or hitch to Manchester or Blackpool... I think the ghost topic must have exhausted itself, as we've all rambled off a bit......
