The South Ribble "NoW card" for pensioners/disabled allow travel free
within South Ribble area and 50p flat rate outside S/R. I have a NoW card and went today from Leyland to see a friend in Garstang, total cost 2 quid, not bad value.

Roy I agree its good value, I just object to the government trying to con everybody into thinking they are giving us something that they aren't.

Yes Shuffy you are quite right.
The way I see it, places like Merseyside and Gtr.Manchester cover a vast area, in those places bus travel is now ( and in some cases already was) free. These are just two examples there are plenty of big areas around Britain but South Ribble is small so even a short trip to Preston costs flat rate, 50p.[V]

I guess we do pretty well here in Skagit County, by comparison. For everyone, it's 50 cents (about 30p) a ride, no matter how far. Disabled and elderly (65+) get the ride for half as much. On top of that, we give transfer tickets that will get you a free ride on the next bus (within 90 minutes of getting on the first one). The frequency isn't very good, and it can take forever to get some places, but if you do it right, you can get from Anacortes to Bellingham (about 45 miles) for 30p.
Later this year, we're starting an express service to Everett, which will connect to a commuter train service to Seattle. That is about 40 miles, all motorway, and we'll be using inter-city coaches, but it will still be 30p each way.
We get about 15 percent of our revenue from the fare box. The rest of it is from State and County government grants (i.e., taxes).
