We have recently had this film on the moon landings conspiracy theory on NZ television and some of the persuasive arguments re the flag waving and shadows in the wrong place etc led to lots of heated discussion on talk back radio.
I heard the descriptions of the landings as they took place on a radio in the Assembly Hall of the school where I was teaching at the time.800 girls and staff had been herded in to listen to the great moment.
Even then the doubts had started from some quarters as to the authenticity of the event but we were a lot less cynical in those days and trusted our leaders more.
Would be very interested to hear what some experts have to say on the matter as I remain unconvinced as to whether some aspects of the landing were short of the truth.

I to have seen so called evidence that the US never landed on the moon.
Surely for this to happen many thousands of people would have had to be privy to the secret. All of NASA would have known it. Having worked for NASA for the last 21 years I know how difficult it is to keep anything confidential. It could not be kept quiet.

This Programme was shown on ch 4 only a week ago,and I watched all of it.I had never seen it before, and I was enthralled by it. One question was regarding the Van Allen belt, this is a belt of high energy radiation some 25000 miles into space, and 2000 miles in thickness that it is said, would be very difficult to pass through, without severe harm coming to the crew of the space capsule. It was said that a radiation shield of 6feet of lead would be needed to prevent any damage to them,or the craft.
I remain unconvinced, one way or another, but I am coming down on the side of(yes it was a hoax),because of the evidence presented. The flag waving in the Breeze, shadows not in the right place, and the lighting of the lunar modual. The point about NASA personel,in the control centre, at Houston, and elswhere, knowing about the (Big Lie) was explained away simply that they did NOT know at all. The radio messages where coming from Area 51 ! now there's a place for you...
I have to this day got some pictures of the lunar landing, and the footprints etc, which I aquired from a person who had a relation in a high security UK government tracking station, and I bought these (6) for £20 a lot of cash then,3 days before they splashed down......
Sorry about going on a lot, but there you go ...
All the best......Tony

Thanks all
I always think back to 1984 and Winston working in a place where not one worker knew what the other was doing and how the whole purpose was never revealed.
Well????
Why did the moon landings stop after that success?-I've always wondered.

I've seen lots of TV programmes and books that say things like "It is said that" and then some scientific statement. It sounds very convincing when you hear it, but! I'd be interested to see the scientific studies of the Van Allen Belt and how lethal it is. I might try a Google on it.

There are two reasons that I can think of.
[*]The first moon landings where great for the American people. They were a real lift for the country. After the first few, the public started losing interest. It cost a huge amount of money to put a man on the moon and the tax payers would soon start complaining once they got over the initial excitement

The amount of radiation moon astronauts were exposed to, at the speed they were travelling was approx. 1 rem. Symptoms of radiation sickness occur at 25 rem with full sickness beginning at 100 rem.
It's probably safer than living within 25 miles of Windscale. Long term space travel is a different matter.

Thought I would make this my mission in life to resurrect some old topics.Have just watched a six part series on Tele" From the Earth to the Moon" -Tom Hanks, covering the entire space programme and yes it was pulpy soapy fictionalised drivel for the most part. However it did give an overview of attitudes at the time towards the glamourised astronauts and their "model" wives.
I can uderstand John saying nothing could be kept quiet at Nasa but at the same time I would still like to learn more of area 51.
Many events are being revealed as the time runs out for secrecy and just last night we had an account on TV of an experiment in NZ towards the end of the war to produce a Tsunami bomb capable of creating a tidal wave large enough to wash the Japanese from their island strongholds.
At first this was supported by the Americans ,then abandoned as a "feasible" plan.
This could well be another rant from a few wannabes but I'm old enough to say nothing surprises me.

If you want to read about the early american space flights and plans see Tom Wolfe's book "The Right Stuff" or see the film that was made from it
